Primary lymphomas of the skin

Cutaneous lymphomas are a heterogeneous group of T and B lymphoproliferative disorders with clinical, histological, and immunophenotypic characteristics. Although they are increasingly common, these malignancies are still rare (7 new diagnoses/million inhabitants/year). The group’s objective is to study new diagnostic approaches, predictive parameters, and innovative therapeutic approaches for this type of disease.

Research areas

The identification of diagnostic and predictive parameters of cutaneous lymphomas using non-invasive diagnostic approaches and immunohistochemical and/or molecular biology techniques.

Research projects

  •  Retrospective histopathological evaluation of Tox expression in fungal mycosis (T-cell cutaneous lymphoma) and in inflammatory cutaneous pathologies
  • The use of non-invasive diagnostic tools for the early diagnosis of cutaneous lymphomas.

Ongoing research objectives

  • The identification of immunohistochemical parameters for the diagnosis of mycosis fungoide in the initial phase and of parameters that might correlate with different prognostic outcomes.
  •  The identification of parameters using non-invasive diagnostics (dermatoscopy) which can lead to early diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoma and faster differential diagnosis of reactive inflammatory diseases.
