The laboratory, which was created in 1981, is currently accredited by the National Transplant Center (Centro Nazionale Trapianti) and the National Blood Center for Transplantation (Centro Nazionale Sangue per il Trapianto) for autologous and allogenic stem cells. Since 2015 it has held the international accreditation ISCT-EBMT (JACIE) for “Autologous & Allogeneic Transplantation in Adult Patients, Immune Effector Cells administration, Collection of HPC Marrow, and Cell Processing - minimally manipulated”.
The processing laboratory consists of three parts:
- the laboratory/study for receiving samples and managing the database and the reporting;
- the laboratory with Class D filtration for the actual processing, regularly inspected by ARPA;
- the cryobank, where the products to be transplanted are cryopreserved and stored.
