The birth today
Finding a balance between safety and naturalness
The project
Birth remains a central event in the human experience. Childbirth is an extraordinarily complex biological phenomenon that involves a small but tangible number of complications that can pose serious risks to both mother and child.
In developed countries, there is debate about how childbirth should be assisted. Finding a balance between the need to ensure maximum safety and at the same time respect the naturalness of the event is not automatic, and there are different, even conflicting, positions.
The joint initiative of the University of Bologna and the IRCCS Policlinico di Sant'Orsola has the dual purpose of informing expectant couples about how a modern delivery room works and, at the same time, initiating a conversation between the parties involved: healthcare professionals and users.
The goal is to share needs, desires, and requirements and achieve a greater level of awareness on both sides.
The calendar offers one meeting per month, allowing all expectant women and couples to participate ideally around the 7th month of pregnancy.
Agenda
The meetings will take place in a university lecture hall and will be coordinated by university professors in collaboration with staff from the IRCCS Policlinico di Sant'Orsola hospital.
We will discuss the organization of a modern birth center, the women's journey through the hospital, pain management, the role of partners, and cord blood donation.
Speakers will include both university and hospital professionals, namely:
- a gynecologist
- a midwife
- an anesthetist
- a neonatologist
- a psychologist
- a doctor from the cord blood bank
