Healthcare and hospital facilities
Integrated collaboration is the driving force behind continuous and sustainable progress in academia and healthcare.
DIMEC is a complex and multifaceted organisation, with 51 scientific-disciplinary sectors, 7 research areas and a wide range of training courses. The distribution of activities across five locations, from the Bologna Campus to Rimini, and close collaboration with the IRCCS of S. Orsola and the Romagna Health Authority, testify to our commitment to research, teaching and clinical practice.
DIMEC aims to consolidate its position as a leader in biomedical and translational research, covering the many aspects of prevention, diagnosis and therapy. At the same time, it aims to offer excellent training, capable of preparing highly qualified professionals to face the challenges of the medicine of the future. The Sant'Orsola IRCCS is the hub of the Department's research, training and care activities, with constant expansion and strengthening of its initiatives. This model of integrated collaboration is the driving force behind continuous and sustainable progress in the academic and healthcare fields.
Synergy with healthcare facilities is essential for optimising resources, improving healthcare performance and promoting the development of local medicine, with a particular focus on technological innovation and the care of the most vulnerable people. To achieve these goals, DIMEC considers it essential to strengthen collaborations with the various departments of the University of Bologna and with key social and healthcare stakeholders, including the Emilia-Romagna Region, the IRCCS AOU of Bologna, the AUSL of Bologna and Romagna, as well as patient associations.
Collaborations and shared infrastructure
Thanks to the Addenda, implementation agreements between the University and IRCCS di S. Orsola, DIMEC has intensified synergies, promoting the sharing of spaces, facilities and non-clinical staff for research activities of common interest. In addition, a shared programme has been implemented with IRCCS AOU Bologna, aimed at integrating regional healthcare planning with essential care activities for university teaching and research. This synergy, enshrined in legislation and local agreements, is particularly evident in the Regional Memorandum of Understanding.
Among the initiatives promoted by DIMEC is the strengthening of university staff in healthcare facilities in Romagna, with the aim of optimising joint planning with the health service for a more effective integration of healthcare, teaching and scientific activities.
Patient associations
Patient associations represent the interests and needs of people living with a disease and their families. The department is rooted in the social welfare context of the territory and carries out many activities that integrate scientific and social objectives. For this reason, it collaborates with patient associations to engage in direct dialogue with citizens, also providing counselling and training for families and patients.
