Occupational Medicine
The occupational medicine team carries out research, university teaching, and third mission activities (dissemination of knowledge in this field for the benefit of society as a whole) in all areas that have to do with the health of the population works or with pollution in the living environment.
Research areas
Public health
SPECIALIST CLINICAL ASPECTS OF OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE
Characterization of diseases caused by work from a diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive point of view.
HEALTH SURVEILLANCE
Study of the methods and techniques applicable to the health surveillance of workplace risks in order to improve their acceptability, effectiveness, efficiency and rational use of resources; health surveillance and promotion of the health of the population at work.
ASSESSMENT OF WORK AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS
Study of the methods with which to evaluate exposure to occupational and environmental risks and definition of the methods with which to control them.
Development and application of sensors from traditional and/or wearable electronics to improve safety in working and living environments.
PHYSIOLOGY OF WORK
Study of the changes induced in the organism by work activity through the (tele)detection of physiological, kinetic and postural parameters, both at rest and during various activities (simulated or real).
ELECTRON MICROSCOPY AND SPECTROSCOPY
Application of advanced electron microscopy techniques (SEM, TEM, Atomic Force, RX microanalysis) and IR and Raman spectroscopy to the characterization of corpuscular pollutants (inorganic, microplastics) in human and environmental matrices.
MASS SPECTROMETRY
Application of advanced mass spectrometry techniques (Gas-mass, Liquid-mass, ICP-mass) to the characterization of soluble pollutants (metals, organic molecules, etc.) in human and environmental matrices.
OCCUPATIONAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL EPIDEMIOLOGY
Study of the prevalence, incidence and determinants of work-related and environmental pathologies, with particular reference to oncological and musculoskeletal ones.
