The "Highly Cited Researchers 2023" ranking has certified the production of high-quality and impactful scientific works: out of the 7,125 researchers included in the ranking, 115 work in Italy, in universities, research institutions, and other establishments.
Among them are Prof. Paolo Boffetta, Prof. Michele Cavo, and Prof. Eva Negri.
Prof. Michele Cavo has been included for the seventh consecutive year in the Clarivate Analytics ranking thanks to his research in hematology, focusing primarily on multiple myeloma, with particular reference to new therapeutic strategies including next-generation biological agents, and CAR-T cell immunotherapy. Prof. Cavo, with a specialization in Hematology, is not only a full professor at the University of Bologna but also the director of the Hematology Unit at the "Seragnoli" Institute of the IRCCS Policlinico Sant’Orsola.
Prof. Paolo Boffetta, who in addition to this prestigious recognition has been awarded the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by President Mattarella for his scientific merits, is a full professor of Occupational Medicine and Associate Director for Population Sciences at the Stony Brook Cancer Center, Stony Brook University. An epidemiologist, he has contributed to understanding the role of occupation, environment, alcohol, smoking, and nutrition in the development of cancer and other chronic diseases.
Ranking third among the top female scientists is Prof. Eva Negri, Coordinator of the Master's Degree Course in Health Professions Sciences for Prevention.
I am very proud of this recognition because it demonstrates to young women aspiring to a career in research that women can also achieve significant milestones in the scientific field, says the epidemiologist, who has long been involved in studying risk factors associated with occupation, environment, and lifestyles, and in advocating for the crucial role that prevention plays in improving people's health.
