Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome - OSAS
This research group is dedicated to the study of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), both in pediatric and adult patients. This is a life-threatening disease with a very high disease rate of 3–7% in the general population, with a number of anatomical abnormalities and neuromuscular dysfunctions that lead to repeated episodes of partial or complete airway obstruction during sleep. OSAS is associated with significant morbidity, such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, daytime hypersomnolence, neurocognitive deficits, and reduced quality of life. The role of the ENT head and neck surgeon is fundamental for classifying patients correctly and offering the most appropriate treatment options.
