Attività scientifica

The research team operates in the Clinical Units ofEndocrinologyand Diabetesin the University General Hospital.

Personnel:12 among staff endocrinologists and diabetologists, 6 fellows MD, 11 residents, 12 nurses, 2 dietitians, 1 psychologist, 3 medical biotechnologists.

Clinical facility: 20 rooms for medical examinations, 6 rooms for blood withdrawal, diagnostic tests and treatments, 1 room specifically assigned to clinical trials.

Databaseof the Units includes records of 59000 patients affected by all types of endocrine and metabolic diseases, plus 28000 type-2-diabetes patients. Up to 12000 and 9000 visits/year are usually performed by the Endocrinology and Diabetes Units, respectively.

Laboratory facility: located at the Center for Applied Biomedical Research, it mainly includes liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) platform (4000Q-Trap, AB Sciex), 4 rooms for bench-working, instrument location and data analysis. Biobank storage facility. Seven in house assays and one commercial assay for small molecules and hormones (metabolomics panel, steroids, endocannabinoids) quantitation in biologic fluids (serum, plasma, saliva, cell culture, tissues, faeces extracts). >50000 samples analyzed in ten years.
